The Law and Political Economy (LPE) Project seeks to hire an Academic Fellow to play both a scholarly and organizational role. 

The LPE Project brings together a network of scholars, practitioners, and students working to develop innovative intellectual, pedagogical, and political interventions to advance the study of political economy and law. The Project also supports the development of ideas and proposals to democratize our political economy, advance economic, racial, and gender equality, and build a more sustainable future. To further this mission, the Project hosts public events, conferences, and academies; forms scholarly reading groups and workshops; helps develop courses and course materials; and facilitates mentorship. We also connect our network of scholars with activists, practitioners, and policy specialists to ensure that LPE work both supports and is informed by engaged practice.

The Academic Fellow will receive an appointment as an Associate Research Scholar at Yale Law School. The ideal candidate would have an interest in a legal academic career, an evolved research agenda attuned to LPE frameworks, and familiarity with the work of the LPE Project.

On average over the course of the year, the Fellow will spend approximately 50% of their time working with the Executive Director, Faculty Director, and other affiliated academics on Project programming. The Fellow will spend the other 50% of their time on their own scholarly research and writing, or other professional development activities. In this respect, the position resembles certain legal fellowships and visiting assistant professorships that combine substantive employment with professional development and preparation for a permanent position in the law or an allied field. 

The annual compensation for the Academic Fellow is $65,000, plus benefits (including health insurance).


Applicants should have a J.D., and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with co-workers on practical tasks. Ideally, they would also have significant project management or organizing experience. 

The position is for a two-year term. The Academic Fellow is expected to reside in New Haven, Connecticut, and to participate in LPE programming, including at Yale Law School.
