2023 LPE Conference – “Labor, Social Control, and Counterpower”

Mar 31, 2023

The LPE Project and LPE@HLS are excited to announce our upcoming conference, entitled Law and Political Economy: Labor, Social Control, and Counterpower, which will take place from March 31 to April 2, 2023, at Harvard Law School!

Although we would love to host a larger event (such as the in-person conference the LPE Project initially planned for April 2020), due to limited capacity this year we have chosen to focus on just two themes. Given the limited scope of the conference, we have invited legal scholars within the LPE movement who are working directly on these two themes to serve as panelists:

  • Law, Labor, and Class Power, which encompasses work on labor and employment, as well as examining law, class, and its interactions with race, gender, and other dimensions of subordination; and
  • The Political Economy of Social Control, which engages questions related to carcerality, social welfare, and the imposition of social order and subordination in capitalist societies.

The conference will also include practitioner/organizer panels, as well as a workshop for emerging scholars. We aim to host larger gatherings and additional programming in the future.

Conference events will be held in person and also livestreamed. The conference is free to attend, but registration is required for in-person attendance. To register, please fill out and submit this form. Registration for in-person will be ongoing until Monday, March 27, or until we reach full capacity (at which point we will close the registration form). You do not need to register to attend virtually. Livestream links will be available on the event webpage on the morning of Friday, March 31. Please visit the conference webpage to view the full agenda and further details.
