Building and Balancing: Abundance and LPE in the “Block by Block” Era

Oct 28, 2026

Location:

CUNY Law School 2 Ct Square W Long Island City, NY

Time of Event:

6:30 - 8pm

Can New York build its way out of the housing crisis? And when we build, how do we balance deliberation and delivery in democratic politics?

The LPE Night School series returns to CUNY Law with a panel on the New York City housing crisis. Amid demographic shifts and displacement, practitioners, advocates, and organizers will examine two responses to the housing crisis: calls for supply and demands for stability. Join John Mangin and Aissatou Barry as we navigate the common grounds and tensions in the coalitional fight for New York City’s housing.

John Mangin is the Mamdani appointed chair of the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals. He previously directed the Housing Division at the Department of City Planning, where he led the development of City of Yes for Housing Opportunity.

Aissatou Barry is an Associate Professor of Law and the Director of the Housing Justice Clinic at Brooklyn Law School. Prior to Brooklyn Law School, Professor Barry represented tenants with the Legal Aid Society Bronx Neighborhood Office and taught as an Adjunct Professor at the CUNY School of Law and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
