Join the NYU Law & Political Economy Association, along with LALSA and Center CIRCL, for a lunch talk to discuss the constitution of American colonialism with Maggie Blackhawk, Professor of Law at NYU Law and member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. Prof. Blackhawk’s scholarship shows us that America’s colonization project is not an artifact of an ignominious past; it’s alive and kicking, and it’s a fundamental part of our legal system’s design. Reckoning with the history—and present—of American colonialism helps complete the picture of how our legal system functions and provides crucial insights to inform our fights for collective liberation.
