Conference Panel: Transforming Private Control Over Political Production

Mar 18, 2021

Location:

Zoom

Time of Event:

Thursday 7PM - 8:30 (ET)

This panel will discuss an array of concrete institutional barriers to democracy under neoliberalism, including the legal configurations of property, markets, economic development, political representation, campaign finance, corporations, labor unions, central banking, and international trade agreements. Given the complexity and social embeddedness of our institutional arrangements, how can we possibly democratize the economy? Can we have democracy without class hierarchy? Without private ownership? What are our alternatives? Each panelist will present a work-in-progress, followed by a roundtable discussion of new institutional arrangements that might help us move beyond neoliberal stasis.

Presenters:

John Cioffi (UC Riverside)
Jedidiah Kroncke (University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law)
Timothy Kuhner (University of Auckland Faculty of Law)
Jamee Moudud (Sarah Lawrence College)
Ezra Rosser (American University Washington College of Law)
