UChicago Law and Political Economy is fostering a community of students and scholars to critically examine the relationship between our legal system, democracy, and capitalism. We are committed to the idea that politics and the economy cannot be separated and are both fundamentally shaped by law. We hope to advance alternative visions of the law that work toward an egalitarian and sustainable polity.
We chat with faculty, promote student scholarship, and offer reading groups to explore the full range of intellectual and social movements operating under the banner of LPE, including democratic unionism, police and prison abolition, climate justice, and opposition to cost-benefit analysis.
